Free Laptops and 4G
Updated 12 May 2020
On 19 April, the government announced that they would provide free laptops and 4G for some pupils.
Who is eligible?
Further details have clarified that the pupils eligible for the government scheme will be:
- pupils with a social worker
- disadvantaged pupils in Year 10 (this is usually those in receipt of FSM)
What is happening?
Nottingham City council have been allocated laptops to distribute to pupils with social workers. We are in the process of confirming numbers to the council (although they do not believe the allocation to be sufficient to cover all of the eligible pupils).
Greenwood Academies Trust have been allocated laptops to distribute to disadvantaged Year 10 pupils who currently have no access to a device. We are in the process of confirming numbers to the Trust (although they do not believe the allocation to be sufficient to cover all of the eligible pupils).
What is Nottingham Girls' Academy doing?
Technical and logistical issues mean that loaning laptops from the academy is not a viable solution.
However, we are working with local partners to find ways of providing further laptops to make up for any shortfall in the government allocation as well as to disadvantaged pupils in Key Stage 3 who have no access to a device.
We hope to have exciting news to share about his work soon.
When will pupils get them?
Currently we are told that laptops through the government scheme should be available by late May/early June.
This page will be updated and the appropriate parents will be contacted as soon as we have further details of when any laptops will be available and how they will be distributed.
Please do not contact the academy requesting a laptop.
Does my daughter need a laptop for home learning?
We have specifically ried to set work that pupils can access and complete work on a tablet or smartphone too.
Please visit the Home Learning Hub for more details.
