Changes to the Guidance on Face Coverings

Updated 19 January 2022

Face Coverings

From Thursday 20 January, face coverings are no longer recommended in classrooms for pupils or staff.

However, a face covering will still be required in communal indoor spaces for all pupils, staff and visitors (unless exempt) up to and including Wednesday 26 January.

Communal spaces include:

  • Corridors and stairwells
  • Toilet areas
  • The hall
  • The canteen (unless eating)
  • The library

From Thursday 27 January, face coverings are no longer recommended in communal areas for pupils or staff.

Pupils who are exempt from wearing face coverings will be asked to wear an orange lanyard so that staff do not continue to request they wear a face covering. If your child is exempt, please contact their Head of Year to let them know.

Pupils wearing face coverings are still expected to follow the school rule regarding no face piercings.

Public Transport

Pupils who take public transport will be required to wear a face covering until Thursday 27 January 2022.

Other Measures

We will continue to encourage pupils to wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitiser when they arrive on site, enter building and enter classrooms.

We will also continue to keep the building as well ventilated as possible and maintain regular additional cleaning of high contact areas around the school.

Regular Lateral Flow Testing

We continue to encourage all pupils and staff to take, and register, Lateral Flow Tests twice weekly (we suggest Sunday and Wednesday evenings). This is one of the most effective ways of reducing the transmission of the virus.

Attendance

There is currently no reason to feel the risk of attending school has increased. Unless they are self-isolating, all pupils are expected to attend school as normal. This continues to be be the best way we can recover from the disruption to education already suffered over the last 18 months.
