Staff Induction

Here you will find the policies you need to read as part of your induction.

STAFF INDUCTION

To help you settle in to your new role and working environment, your line manager will oversee an induction programme to ensure you are confident in carrying out the full scope of your role. They will use the induction checklist below, the mandatory requirements must be completed within the first two full weeks in your new role. The checklist will be signed by you and your line manager, retained in your training record and a copy placed on your individual personnel file.

The design and content of your induction programme will depend on your role, level of responsibility and previous work experience. There will be input from a number of different people, determined by your line manager, who are best placed to assist and supply you with the full range of relevant information.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Nottingham Girls' Academy and to Greenwood Academies Trust.

COMPLETING YOUR INDUCTION CHECKLIST

A copy of your induction checklist is attached below. You will be issued with a paper copy on your first day, which you need to complete with support from your line manager.

If you have any concerns regarding your first day, the on-boarding process, your induction or indeed have any wellbeing concerns please contact mbrown@nottinghamgirlsacademy.org.uk.

Staff Dress Code

The Trust's Staff Code of Conduct states the following:

'The Trust does not operate a formal dress code for its employees, other than for those who are provided with a uniform and/or protective clothing. However, employees must ensure that their dress and footwear is appropriate for the situation in which they are working and that they present a professional image and one that reflects sensitivity to customer perceptions. This may reflect their ethnicity and lifestyle but should not be provocative or cause offence to those with whom they have contact.'

In practice at NGA

The following guidance clarifies what I consider appropriate at.NGA in order for us to uphold our professional image and reflect sensitivity to customer perceptions:

General Staff Dress Code

Smart professional dress, comprising (as a minimum):

  • Collared shirt with a tie and fastened top button, or a blouse/top, with trousers or skirt; or
  • a dress / jumpsuit; or
  • appropriate cultural dress.
  • Shoes that are appropriate for the working environment (eg. appropriate for wear in, say, science or technology).

All clothing should be worn so that it is modest in terms of tightness of fit and length. It should not be too revealing and needs to be sensitive to the cultural diversity of the academy.

Summer Staff Dress Code (applicable for the final half-term of the year and on any other days deemed appropriate by the Principal)

Smart professional dress (as for the rest of the year) but with the following adjustments permitted for all staff:

  • Open necked shirts without ties.
  • Tailored shorts.
  • Shoes or sandals (not flipflops or sliders) that are appropriate for the working environment (e.g. appropriate for wear in, say, science or technology).

Again, all clothing should be worn so that it is modest in terms of tightness of fit and length. It should not be too revealing and needs to be sensitive to the cultural diversity of the academy.

Jewellery, Hair, Tattoos and Make-Up

Although it will be left to the discretion of each member of staff (apart from instances where the Principal deems it to be unacceptable as per the Trust's Staff Code of Conduct), it is important for us to model our expectations of pupils in how we dress ourselves.

It is therefore asked that, where possible:

  • Facial piercings are removed during the day.
  • Hair, if dyed, is dyed a natural colour.
  • Tattoos are covered.
  • Any false nails and/or false eyelashes are discreet in length.

Adjustments

Staff who require permanent or temporary adjustments to the dress code due to medical reasons or specific elements of their role should agree these with their line manager.

Concerns About Staff Dress

It is the responsibility of the line manager to raise any concerns about the appropriateness or acceptability of a member of their staff's dress.

Usually, this would result in a member of staff being asked to rectify the issue, with reference to this guidance as an explanation.
